My kitchen drain is slow so I slowly pour half a box of baking soda into it. Then, I slowly add a cup of water to rinse it down. Let it sit for at least an hour. The drain is clean when I get up in the morning.

Baking soda and vinegar are a better alternative to chemical drain cleaning. Put a cup baking soda in the drain. Then heat up a cup vinegar and pour it down the drain. After several minutes, flush the drain with hot water. Continue to flush as necessary. *Do not use if your drain is clogged

Be sure to remove the drain screen and stopper before you try any of these. Also, make sure to wipe any blockages out with a paper towel.

Not every drain clog requires such drama. Regular drain cleaning is sufficient to clear drains.

Baking soda and vinegar? My plumbing faith says to use coke and menthols but that you must flush them with hot water before and afterwards. It works every time!

My high school chemistry teacher was correct. The fizzy mixture of vinegar and baking soda is ineffective at fighting grease clogged drains.

Hot water is great for kitchen grease clogs, but what about hair and soap buildup in bathtubs and shower drains.

The main active ingredients sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide release heat to dissolve the drain blockage. That’s some science!

If possible, cover the drain with a stopper. Baking soda and vinegar will cause the drain to bubble and fizz a lot. However, it is not necessary that the drain be covered.

A microbial cleaner such as Bioclean Drain Septic Bacteria is an option. As a general rule, don’t pour anything down your drain if you don’t like to drink it. It will eventually end up in the water supply.
